Routinely vast assertions are made, often by zealous protestants, about how the ‘modern church’ destroyed the ‘real’ Christian Church. Frequently these involve accusations like ‘Constantine invested the church’. I would like to refute a few of these and describe what we do know about the Early Christians. There is a small group of people who profess belief in gnosticism (Early non-Christian writings) and suggest that St Paul invented Christianity. This refutal cannot address those so obviously outside of Christianity, that they do not even acknowledge the Churches the Disciples and Apostles do.
For starters I would like to add one Read Full Article [...]
Somehow I ended up on the mailing list for Marina Orlova’s ‘Hot for Words’ so I get inundated with her increasingly high on sex appeal low on information post (a pity really, her earlier videos showed some real effort). Marina is no stranger to controversy, but has generally been at least accurate, even when she’s wearing more clothes than she is facts; which isn’t much. In her recent ‘video lesson’ she does admirable refrain from outright blasphemy but passes on a bunch of nonsense as well.
To be fair, etymologically, she at least did print some correct saxon, and germanic Read Full Article [...]
Myth #1: Pascha is a Pagan Holiday
Holy Pascha celebrates the resurrection of Christ, and the Salvation of mankind through repentance. This is the ‘Good News’ spoken of in the New Testament. Pascha takes place in accordance with Passover but according to the Julian rather than Hebrew calendar. This is why Pascha is named such; it comes from the Greek word for Passover. The earliest recorded reference to Pascha is a homily from around 150AD. Keep in mind this is older than most known copies of the New Testament writings, and during the time the Gospels were being recorded. It Read Full Article [...]
A friend recently asked where to find the Lord’s prayer, as it is called in English, in Russian. This is a very important prayer in our church, and it is recited during liturgy. I noticed that very few sites call it this and it can be difficult to search for if you’re not familiar with the Russian language.
Below are both the Russian language and Old Church Slavonic versions:
Russian:
Отче наш, сущий на небесах, да святится имя Твое;
да приидет Царствие Твое; да будет воля Твоя и на земле, как на небе;
хлеб наш насущный дай нам на сей день;
и прости нам долги Read Full Article [...]

Recently Russia decided that Casinos do not have the right to operate anywhere they please, and that as such many would have to close their doors. Also the Russian Orthodox Church has come out in support of this decision, which is not surprising given that gambling is considered sinful, and these casinos have seduced many Russians into throwing away their lives on the un-Christian culture casinos promote. Some in the west however have suggested that this is ‘puritan’ in nature, and not the realm of government to decide. Let’s look at the facts.
Firstly the westerners saying that government shouldn’t Read Full Article [...]
Watching American television last night I once again was introduced to what I find to be a very strange phenomena. The show was speaking about the Moscow Kremlin. The building being called the Kremlin was in fact a very poor model of St Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square (in fact adding Red Stars and Catholic Style crosses to the cupolas in very poor taste; the juxtaposition of soviet and western Christian symbols as well as poor paint job was very difficult to swallow.). An Architect character in the program called the building displayed ugly (unlikely for any architect of Read Full Article [...]
